remained largely unchanged into the late 50s
but of the very very few of these I've seen before

These replaced the WW2 era N4 olive deck jackets and retain a lot of the same design, but updated with a much more comfortable lining. These would be worn as standard temperate to cold weather outers during the early 60s, with this particular example serving with a number of ships including USS Ozark and USS Wallace . L. Lind.
