These locomotives were manufactured by General Motors Electro Motive Division of La Grange, Illinois. The locomotives were built between February 1939 to December 1949. EMD produced over 1,100 NW2s for North American Railroads. The NW2's were EMD's new 12 cylinder, 567A prime
